The powerful subject value-added (VA) grid (see Toolkit files below) combines DfE transition matrices (TMs), published as part of the Guidance in the Performance Tables in January 2019, with the pupil-level datafile produced for each school by the DfE for the exam result data-checking exercise each October.
At a glance (using the familiar RAISE convention of green = 'good' / blue = 'under'), you can see for each of the main GCSE subjects how your school has performed against national by each KS2 sub-level. This grid format facilitates a detailed discussion, which can look at varying input abilities and output grades, for example.
The spreadsheet allows you to compare all pupils/male.female/disadvantaged/non-disadvantaged and new introduction of EAL / nonEAL and SEN / nonSEN for your school with comparable categories nationally.
We are grateful to ASCL member David Blow for his continuing work on the transition matrices (TM) tool.
