Reception Baseline Assessment

March 2019

In response to the 2017 primary assessment consultation, the government announced plans to introduce a statutory Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) in autumn 2020. The government will use it as the baseline for measuring the progress primary schools make with their pupils.

State funded schools with a reception cohort will be able to participate in a national voluntary pilot of the RBA starting in September 2019.

Last week, schools will have received communications from the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), containing information about how to sign up for the pilot. Please refer to this email if you wish to participate. The recruitment window is now open and will close on 5 April 2019.

For more information, see the government’s website.
