Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, comments on plans set out by the Prime Minister to transform the training and skills system.
Commenting on plans set out by the Prime Minister to transform the training and skills system, Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said:
“We welcome the ambition of boosting training and skills, as this is essential not only to aid recovery from the immediate crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but in order to create greater opportunity and social equity in the longer term.
“The proposals outlined by the Prime Minister appear to be positive steps forward, and we now look forward to seeing the detail.
“It is imperative that these plans are backed up by sufficient funding. Further education is woefully underfunded, and colleges have been pushed to the financial brink. This cannot go on. Any aspirations for a genuine skills revolution need proper strategic investment, rather than just dribs and drabs of money.”
