ASCL Senior Leadership Programme

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Oceanova and the National College of Education to offer senior leaders the opportunity to achieve the level 7 Senior Leadership Apprenticeship Executive Diploma in Education Leadership and Management.

This new programme offers senior leaders in all education settings the opportunity to participate in a dedicated programme of professional learning, specifically designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to navigate the increasingly complex education leadership landscape.

The programme is incredibly practical and delivered within your existing work commitments, with access to ongoing expert support and resources which can be applied not only to your learning but also across your entire role.

The programme is fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy (subject to eligibility) and on completion, participants are awarded a recognised qualification in education leadership.

ASCL General Secretary, Geoff Barton and Gareth Alcott, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the National College of Education, hosted a webinar on 21 June which provided more information about this new programme.  You can access the recording in the embedded video below, together with the following resources:

The programme comprises of four core modules plus enrichment sessions run by ASCL:

Module 1: Leading Strategy

You will create a strategic intent and vision for your school, college or trust, analysing strategic opportunities and promoting innovation. You will also develop critical knowledge of environmental, social and governance factors, and will explore how to cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in strategy execution.

Module 2: Leading Transformation
You will explore approaches to design innovation. You will lead and influence agreed projects to deliver organisational strategy, such as change and agile transformation programmes, new service implementation, and experience improvement. Using design-thinking tools, such as A3 thinking and VoC, you will develop practical project plans.

Module 3: Leading Operations
In this module, you will explore competing priorities in budget, people, technology, governance, and regulation to achieve successful outcomes in executing project plans. You will explore how performance metrics and function accountability are designed to ensure outcomes are aligned to the needs of the organisation and deliver sustainable ESG and regulatory performance.

Module 4: Leading People
You will build a talent management vision and plan across your organisation supported by tools to manage every element of that talent journey for the organisation and the people within it. Exploring coaching, professional learning and succession planning, you will be supported to develop an ethical, inclusive, innovative, and developmental culture.

In addition, ASCL-led enrichment sessions will focus on topical issues with expertise shared by our specialist policy team alongside the experiences of established school, college and trust leaders.
