JCQ guidance for schools and colleges affected by RAAC

19 March 2024

JCQ has published updated guidance for schools and colleges affected by RAAC, Caledonian Modular and other similar building materials. It confirms that:

  • Exam boards have allowed an extra 45 days for affected schools and colleges for submission of non-examined assessment (NEA) and coursework, when requested.
  • If candidates have not been able to complete NEA or coursework due to RAAC (e.g. the D&T block being out of use), then centres should apply for special consideration.
  • It may be that some students cannot submit their NEA or coursework at all due to RAAC: the centre can apply for special consideration for candidates.
  • Students that have had their teaching and learning disrupted during the year due to RAAC will not be eligible for special consideration in the summer exam series, as special consideration only applies at the time of assessment, not in the preparation for it (NB. a similar approach was taken when some, but not all, schools had to close due to Covid breakouts).
In all cases, the guidance recommends centres contacting the relevant exam board. You can read the full guidance, including exam board links here. Please share this with your exams officers, and any curriculum leaders that have NEA/coursework components.
