A new energy scheme for businesses, charities, and the public sector has been announced by HM Treasury. The new scheme replaces the energy bill relief scheme (EBRS) which comes to an end in March 2023. Public sector bodies will be eligible to receive a discount under the new scheme which runs from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
Eligible non-domestic customers will see a unit discount applied to their gas and electricity bills. Discounts will be subject to a wholesale price threshold. This means that organisations whose energy costs are below the threshold will not receive support.
Customers do not need to apply for their discount. As with the current scheme, suppliers will automatically apply reductions to the bills of all eligible non-domestic customers.

We are keen to gather feedback from all types of settings about how the new scheme will impact on your school, college or trust budget. If you are a special school with high energy use facilities, such as a hydro pool, or a college running industry courses that are energy intensive, will the new scheme provide sufficient protection from cost pressures?
