Update: Condition Improvement Fund projects put on hold

28 May 2024

We understand from the Department for Education that only a small number of projects have been paused and that the responsible bodies for all of those affected have now been contacted either by telephone or in writing. The DfE has indicated to us that these organisations will receive an update by the end of June.

We have not been given any insight into the reasons why these projects have been paused, however the DfE has told us that it is not related to the recently announced General Election. The department has said that where they require further information about an application or delivery of a project, the department may put projects on hold whilst further due diligence is conducted.

We are still seeking clarity on the position for those organisations that have already incurred project costs and are committed to contracts. It is our view that any existing project liabilities must be covered and that responsible bodies require reassurance that they will not be left out of pocket. If you find yourself in this situation, we advise you to discuss this with DfE colleagues. This might be the officer that contacted you to advise of the project pause. Otherwise, contact the DfE via CIF.Verification@education.gov.uk.  Also use this contact address if individual schools that have been contacted about their CIF project have any questions or concerns about any urgent works which are required that threaten the closure of the whole, or a significant part of the school.

The DfE has also asked us to remind organisations  to review this web page to view information about Urgent Capital Support: UCS - How to Apply.
