On Friday 19 November, the DfE published new
statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms. The department has also updated its wider non-statutory
advice on developing and implementing a school uniform policy.
The guidance clarifies the government’s expectation that schools think holistically about the cost of their school uniform and therefore covers a range of issues including branded items, supplier arrangements, and second-hand uniform. Governing boards should be compliant with much of this guidance by September 2022. To help explain some of the changes, please see this
