Business leaders' pay survey results

February 2024

Towards the end of 2023, ASCL ran a pay survey of business leaders.  The findings and report (download via link below) was shared with the Conditions and Employment Committee on 8 February 2024.

ASCL will use the findings of this survey as part of our evidence to the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB), where we are arguing that business leaders’ pay should be included in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).

ASCL advises employers to review pay to ensure it is reflective of the roles and responsibilities undertaken. We have developed a business case template for members and guidance for its completion, for use by both business leaders and employers to review business leader pay. We have also updated our guidance paper Pay, conditions and recognition for business leaders to assist business leaders and their employers.

It is a major concern that 50% of business leaders are considering leaving their role in the next three years, this would present a huge risk to the sector.

We are sharing the findings with key stakeholders and urge them to support our call for business leaders to receive the recognition and remuneration that they deserve. We will continue to lobby on your behalf.
