“This additional funding is very welcome and it is reassuring that the Cabinet Secretary recognises the pressures that the education sector is under. It’s now vital that this funding goes directly into schools where it can do the most good.
“Feedback from our members suggests that many schools in Wales are either already in financial difficulty or expect to be in the near future and will need to take actions such as reducing their curriculum offer, reducing pastoral support and increasing class sizes just to balance their books. The funding announced today will allow our members to retain vital resources to help them provide children with the support they need, but it is not going to alleviate all of the financial pressures that schools are under. It must therefore be just the starting point of a process to put education in Wales on a more sustainable footing.”
