Claire Armitstead, Director of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) Cymru, comments on the publication of level 2 results.

Congratulations to everyone receiving results today in GCSEs and vocational qualifications. These results are achieved through a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance, and I'm sure our learners would also like to thank their teachers and parents for all their help and support during what can be a very stressful time. I wish all our GCSE learners the very best in their next educational steps, and hope today has put them on the path to achieving their dreams and aspirations.

“These qualifications give young people their next opportunity, and schools do everything in their power to ensure as many opportunities as possible are open to their students. At the same time, schools are still dealing with the long-term consequences of the pandemic, including problems with attendance and behaviour as well as longstanding funding and staff shortages. To allow our children to thrive, schools and colleges must be resourced and staffed appropriately. It’s time for our political leaders to invest in our country’s future by ensuring the education system has the funding and resources it requires to provide the best possible support to the next generation
