We understand that this is the first of two consultations on apprenticeship assessment and that the proposed changes in this consultation are meant to bring greater flexibility to the work of both Awarding Organisations (AO) and providers. 

We agree with the sentiment in this consultation, i.e. with greater flexibility, but we are concerned that this approach could result in AOs designing different types of assessment for the same type and level of apprenticeship, resulting in inconsistency in quality of outcomes and greater workload for providers. We raise this possibility of inconsistency for consideration at this point as, overall, the general purposes of the assessment seem sensible.
