Leading On - Understanding the Local Government Pension Scheme

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a benefit that many of our school business professional (SBP) colleagues almost take for granted. Yet, in truth, it is a cornerstone of the reward package within the profession. SBPs pay a considerable percentage of their salary into the scheme, with employers paying even more. But there is no pot of money, so where does it go and how does it work?

This webinar will explain the nuts and bolts of the LGPS and how it works for those who contribute.

With many school business colleagues busy running schools (especially considering how roles have had to flex at present time), understanding their LGPS pension and how it works is often pushed to the backburner.
This webinar will help attendees to develop a clear understanding of how the money paid into the LGPS builds up to provide a pension in retirement, as well as some the underlying benefits, such as life insurance and ill health provision.
The session will also help attendees gain a rough idea of what pension they could expect, together with details of other benefits.
This webinar is a repeat of that presented at the recent School Business Leaders Conference and provides a further opportunity to engage and ask questions.

Participants will:

  • develop a greater understanding of how the Local Government Pension Scheme works
  • gain an understanding of how an individual’s pension is built up, what it’s worth and what you might get.
  • get a feel for what the future may hold with regards to the McCloud judgement.
There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with other attendees.

Suitable for business leaders in all teaching phases.

To attend this webinar live, you will need to ensure you have access to a computer or device that meets the Zoom system requirements.

If you cannot attend live you will receive a copy of the recording, links to any resources discussed, and the opportunity to submit questions.
