The process of planning the finances and the curriculum in a strategic manner goes under many titles.
Integrated Curriculum and Financial Planning (ICFP) is one such title. ICFP features regularly in DfE guidance published under the broader heading of
School Resource Management.
It is also a recommended approach included in the Academy Trust Handbook, which says 'Boards are encouraged to take an integrated approach to curriculum and financial planning'
Whilst the fundamental elements of this approach are common across all types of institution many variations are possible depending upon the institution.
Aims
This training package is divided into three standalone modules:
- A finance-focused module
- A curriculum-focused module
- An integrated module combining finance and curriculum
Schools may choose to engage with one, two, or all three modules, depending on their needs.
Each module includes:
- Background notes and supporting documents
- Sample spreadsheet templates for adaptation
- A presentation that schools can use internally for cascade training
Target Audience
CEO/Executive Head, Headteacher/Principal, Deputy Head/Vice Principal, CFO/COO, Business Leaders, Governors & Trustees.
Delivery and Administration
- Schools purchasing the package will need to nominate a contact person, who will liaise with the presenter to schedule mutually convenient delivery times.
- Each module is delivered online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and requires up to one hour, including time for questions or discussion.
- Schools should send the meeting invitation to the presenter for the agreed date and time.
- All materials will be emailed to the main school contact 24 hours in advance.
Technical Requirements
To ensure smooth delivery, schools should use two screens:
- One to display the presentation and switch to spreadsheet templates as needed
- One for maintaining face-to-face interaction during the session
Scheduling Training Sessions
The modular structure allows for flexible scheduling:
- During school hours, twilight sessions (e.g. 4.00-6.00pm) or early evening slots (e.g. 6.30–9:00pm)
Separate units are available for both
Primary and
Secondary settings.
Course Focus
The course has been designed and was originally delivered by Sam Ellis, former ASCL Funding Specialist and now an external consultant for ASCL with extensive experience in developing ICFP materials for both ASCL and the DfE.
Costs
Should you wish to purchase any of the 3 modules the cost will be
£230 + VAT per module (£690 + VAT for all 3 modules.)
Consultancy In-House Training
The course can also be delivered as a full package (three units) in a single half-day, in-person session. Schools interested in this model can request a tailored quote by email, which will take location and travel into account alongside the standard full day training cost.
