New to Managing Data

ASCL HQ, Leicester

"Becky was so knowledgeable and passed on her wisdom and experience in a really accessible way. I am very new to data management and it gave me a really clear overview. It was great to step back from the nitty gritty daily level."
(Delegate feedback, 2024)

So, you have a new job as a Data Manager. Maybe you’re a data analyst new to education, or maybe you’ve been working in support at the school for a while and have plenty of experience in education but are new to the data side of things? Either way, there is a lot to learn.

The impact of the role of data manager on the leadership team should not be underestimated; well-managed data is crucial to support understanding of school performance and it is therefore understandable that this role can seem like a daunting one to take on. In addition, you may be the only one doing the role so will have nobody to lean on.

This course will define a data manager’s tasks and responsibilities throughout the year and provide the ‘toolkit’ to enable you to complete these tasks and responsibilities effectively. It will cover understanding KS4 results, analysis and performance tables, managing annual checking exercises, investigating target setting options, methods of monitoring, tracking and reporting, and ensuring a successful census. Finally we will look at how to create a personal action plan to bring everything you have learned together.
