Leading a whole school approach to positive emotional health

Positive mental health and wellbeing is central to a child’s academic success and a happy adult life. A whole school approach in promoting this must be a priority for schools. Key drivers have been statutory guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education and Promoting children and young people’s emotional health and well-being. As well as successful campaigns to de-stigmatise mental health, compounded by the emotional effects of the pandemic and the requirement to have had an Emotional Recovery programme.

Quality Assurance around Safeguarding

The responsibility of quality assuring safeguarding is a big one. As a DSL or Headteacher with huge operational pressures, it can be tempting to rely on external reviews as the main point of validation. This webinar looks at how external reviews can play an important part in the assurance of this key area, but focuses on strategies for leaders to have continuous oversight of the effectiveness of their safeguarding arrangements.

How can Exclusion improve Inclusion?

The goal of ‘Zero Exclusions’ is unhelpful and unrealistic. The causes of school exclusions are complex and fundamentally challenging. However, the importance of engaging with this challenge remains critical to improving outcomes for all students. There are two core strands of leadership which underpin a school’s response to exclusion: Developing a shared language to support all staff with our innate resistance to challenge and change and delivering professional development that effectively improves staff practice to reduce exclusion.

This session will explore both leadership strands; providing practical strategies and frameworks which can be applied in any school context.
