Leading On - Developing Subject Leaders in Primary: The role of headteachers and senior leaders

The role of the subject leader in primary schools has grown significantly over the last few years.  The expectations placed on teaching staff to lead their subject across the primary setting can often be daunting for many.  This session will explore how Headteachers and senior leaders within a primary setting actively support and coach their staff to be effective subject leaders.  What constitutes a high quality logical and sequenced curriculum for all subjects and how do we empower all subject leaders to take ownership of the subject they lead.

Within this session we will explore:

  • The role of the Headteacher/senior leader to provide strong and effective subject leadership training/coaching.
  • What effective subject leadership looks like within a primary setting.
  • The challenges and opportunities many middle leaders encounter when leading a subject.
  • How we bring out the best in our subject leaders by giving them opportunities to grow as leaders.
  • Influencing, supporting and challenges colleagues.
  • The support available to support the growth and development of subject leaders.
