Graham Hutton, General Secretary, School Leaders Scotland (SLS) 

Scotland’s Curriculum reform – Curriculum for Excellence – has had its ups and downs. As with many reforms, the devil was in the details which were not particularly clear. Each school developed their curriculum to suit their pupils. Graham will talk about his experience as a head, leading curriculum change and ensuring that Curriculum for Excellence became a positive reality in his school; where it faltered across Scotland due to lack of resources and innovation; and where does it go now, given the Scottish Government’s response to the recent plethora of reports on education reform.

The last year has seen significant change in Northern Ireland; from having no government and widespread industrial action, to a situation with a new Education Minister who is driving change and a return to normal working practices. What lessons have we learned and what can we take away?

What is the industrial relations climate like in your workplace and what can you do to build or maintain good, effective industrial relations? What are the motivations that drive the behaviour of union representatives and officers and what does this mean for you?

There is no 'silver bullet' to good industrial relations and Carl will explore how to engage with union representatives across a range of different circumstances.

This session will be an overview of th Government's Employment Rights Bill which creates a new regime for the enforcement of employment law.
 
The session will cover some of the main provision in the Bill for the reform of employment rights in relation to fire and rehire, zero hour contracts, flexible working/family friendly rights; statutory sick pay; protection from harassment and dismissal.
       
11.50am     "That Wellbeing Thing"

Sinéad will share research and insight about school staff wellbeing and mental health and how we might rethink our relationship to work for the benefit of the communities we serve, as well as our own personal health
